Cicadas

Kia ora bloggers,

When reading a book, have you ever been curious about something you were reading, and wanted to find out more to help you understand what you were reading better?  We have been learning about how important this is this week in Literacy.

When we read The Magic School Bus inside the human body’ I formed some advanced questions using ‘how’ and ‘why’.  I made sure they were open ended questions that would help me understand the book more.  An example of one of my questions was “Why are intestines coiled up?’ and I then researched and found out that an adults intestine is 7.5m long, so it needs to coil up so that it fits in the body.

Next we got to chose our own book to read out of our virtual library and we had to form 3 advanced questions about it.  Our create task this week was to share these in a creative way.  I chose to do it with Renderforest and it was about a book called ‘Cicadas’

I really enjoyed this task as it made me realise how important it is to do this when reading to understand the text better.

Do you ever do further research when you are reading a book to deepen your understanding?

Fractured Fairy tale "Jack and the staircase"

Once upon a time, while skipping with his rope, Jack’s mother came out in the beaming sun and says “Jack we are very poor and need some stuff for the winter, go sell our cow Daisy, for some stuff to keep us alive”
“Okay mom I will”
Skipping as Jack goes down to Daisy the cow he takes his cow to the main village to see if there will be anyone willing to take his spotted cow eating on a bucket of hay.  “Heyo kiddo, what are ya planning to do with that cow you have there?
“Well me and my mom are struggling a bit with our money and so I was told to sell my cow Daisy to help my mother and I”
“Well I would be glad to help”
“Really!? Jack replied with a scream “Would you really!?
“Yeah Ofcourse I would, how about I do a trade, how about, you give me  that cow-
“Daisy” said Jack interrupting the man.
-”Oh yes, how about you give me Daisy, and I will give you my bean”
“A Bean!? Replied Jack with an irritated voice.
“A, a, ahh, not just a bean, but a magical bean!
“A magical bean?
“Yes a magical bean” said the man in a soft voice.
“Wow, i'll take it! Says Jack in a proud voice, as they exchange their stuff Jack takes the bean.
Skipping home, Jack shouts to his mother “Mother, mother, I got a bean, a magical bean”
“You got a WHAT!? Shouted mother
“A bean but a magica-
“A bean? Shouted mother “what are we gonna do with that, that is not going to help us at all! “How could you do that, that won’t help us at all”
‘Yes it will, I will prove you wrong mother! I am leaving this house now!
As Jack goes on his way away from his house he thinks to himself “well… if this is a bean… maybe… it can plant something” Jack runs way back to his house and apologises to his mother, finds some water, and a place to plant his bean, “Mom this is going to be great! Says Jack “it might actually plant something! As Jack plants his bean he goes into his bed that night from what the bed was made out of squares of hay and two blankets under and over Jack. It is the next day and as Jack goes out to seek on his bean…     “MOTHER, MOTHERRR, COME QUICKLY” Yelled Jack in a surprised voice “It's grown… as a staircase? Said Jack as if something was off. “I am sooo seeing what's at the top of this staircase. Bye mom”
“Oh no, okay bye Jack, just don’t die” says mother in grief. As Jack goes up the stairs… “BANG” Jack dies, Rest in pieces Jack.

Maths Robot

Hello guys and in today's second blog post I am going to be showing you my maths robot I have created not long ago. My task today was to create a robot on google draw and create it with only straight edges then find 8 angles in the robot. I found 9 and obviously the picture had more than 9 angles. I had my robot printed out and then I estimated the angles then found the real answer. This picture I am going to show you is my digital one without my estimations and actual answers. I had a lot of fun creating and finishing this off so I hope you like it and see you next time, BYEE!!!

Global Issue Pictures

Hello bloggers,
in today's blog post I am going to be showing you a picture and describing what I think it means.

My task today was to pick a picture of a global issue and describe what I think it means in my own opinion. I have picked my picture to describe and I am happy about this one!

I chose this picture because I like how what it said wasn't equivalent to what has actually happened.
("A CLEAN RIVER IS A FUN RIVER" it is not a clean river!) Any way here is what I think it is about,

I think it is about pollution and the way people treat the environment wrong. People sometimes litter and sometimes cause this pollution to happen. I think this because when it says "a clean river is a fun river" the river in front of it is not very clean.

I hope you like my blog and I will see you in the next blog post BYEE!!!

Cool to the Koru art part TWO!!

Hello bloggers,
in today's blog post I am going to be showing you my adobe spark about my koru art I have made with paper designing and mould shaping!

My task today for inquiry was to look back at my paper design for my koru and try to design it into some dry clay. Once I got my clay, I started to design it into my design I made in my paper, then I started to put some water on it after it went dry while I was making it.

I had a lot of fun while making this and I hope you guys like the way it turned out, I definitely liked it! I did have a bit of time to make this so it was pretty good for me to finish it. I also helped one of my friends out with there koru designs, it was super fun! Anyway see ya later, BYEEEEE!!!!

A Situation Irony

Hello bloggers,
in today's blog post I made a DLO about a situational irony! A situational irony is when something happens when you didn't really expect it! My task today was to make a DLO of some pictures of what would happen in a situational irony. I did this with my friend named Valley and she helped take the pictures! It was super funny and fun doing this and it didn't take very long so it was pretty easy to make! I like it a lot and I hope you do too :) see you in the next blog post, BYEEE!!!!

Castle on the hill ;)

Hey Bloggers,

in today's blog post I am going to be showing you my castle based on the three little pigs!

My task today was to write a sentence for each topic of the writing, the Background, the Raising action, the Climax, the falling action, and the Resolution. After I did that, I was supposed to design a castle based on the three little pigs!

It was a bit hard for me and frustrating, for me to design it because there were a lot of shapes used in the following DLO, so it did take quite a while. I did have a lot of fun though! I really like it, and I hope you like it too, see ya next time, BYEEE!!!

Angles :)

Kia ora bloggers,

For numeracy today, we have started to learn about angles.

We learnt about 3 different angles today - acute (less than 90°), right angle (90°), and obtuse (larger than 90° but smaller than 180°).  We also learnt how to use a protractor to measure angles.  We know that we need to measure an angle from a vertice (a corner where two straight lines meet).

For our create task, we had to measure three different angles on the first letter of our name - can you  figure out if they are acute, right angle or obtuse?
