Cool to the Koru

Hey bloggers,

Today's blog post is going to be about my koru that I had made today with my friends Tayla and Valley. I had designed a koru with play dough and made sure I had designed what it would look like on a piece of paper.

My task was to after finishing my koru paper art, was to make at least 3 designs on a paper, and once I did that I made them with the play dough, I chose which one I liked the most, and then I had to have a purpose of why I did this. I really liked doing this and I had a lot of fun, especially when I did it with my friends! I hope you like this and I will see you in the next blog post, BYEEE!!!!

The Lonely Man

Kia ora bloggers,
This week for literacy we have been learning about inferencing and show not tell. When we read something, we automatically start making inferences, so it is important when we write that we give clues in our writing that allow people to make inferences. We want to show them - not tell them.
For example: Paul was frustrated when he got to the bus stop and realised he had just missed the bus. But instead I could write “Running as fast as he could, Paul turned the corner only to see the back of the bus as it pulled away. Throwing his bag down on the ground and sighing out loud, Paul realised that he had no choice, but to sit and wait for the next bus to arrive - 20 minutes from now” You can infer from me saying ‘throwing his bag down and sighing out loud’ that he is frustrated.
Our task was to create a video that accompanied a piece of writing about an elderly man. We used Adobe Spark to do this.
Have a look at my video and see if you can you make some inferences about what I have written. Do you think the elderly man is happy?

Treasure Adventure!!

Hi Bloggers,

For numeracy this week, we have been learning about grid references and we have been working on 4 and 6 digit grid references.

We learnt that we read across the bottom of the grid first (Eastlings) and then up the side second (Northlings).

Our task today was to look at an aerial map of our school, write down the 6 digit grid references for the letters that our teacher had put on it, and then go in hunt of those points. At each point there was 1 or 2 letters. Once we had them all, we had to come back into the hub and unscramble the letters to figure out what it spelt. The secret sentence was ‘Happy Birthday Zoe’.

I came first with my friend Leah, and at one point we noticed that we actually forgotten one letter. I really enjoyed the task. Have you ever had to use grid references before in real life? What was it for?

See you next time,

The Twits, Inference???

Kia ora Bloggers,

This week we have been looking carefully at making inferences when we read or watch something.

An inference is when we take clues from a text or image, and
add them to our thoughts or prior knowledge and make an inference.
For example, when I look at this photo, I might make the inference that
this photo was taken in a food factory as everyone is wearing hair
nets and this is required in all food factories.
What’s going on in this picture? Look closely at the image above or view it in a larger size, then tell us what you see by posting a comment. On Thursday afternoon, we will reveal more about the image and its origins at the bottom of this post.

The text that we read a snippet out of was ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl.
Once we had read the first few chapters where they described the main characters, Mr and Mrs Twit, we then had to make some inferences based on the clues that Roald Dahl had given in the text.

I used Google Draw to create a display of my inferences I have made about Mr and Mrs Twit.

Have you read The Twits before? Do you agree with my inferences? What inferences would you make about the characters?

See you next time!

BEE BOT BLOW AWAY!!!!

For Numeracy this week we have been looking at compass directions.
We have worked on reading maps using the 8 main directions - North, South, East, West, North-East, South-East, North-West and South-West and then we moved onto using Bee bots and our knowledge of compass directions to get a Bee bot through the grid to various locations.

We had to programme the Bee bot with our own algorithm, using forwards,
backwards, turn right, turn left and N, S, E, W. It was important that we regularly
tested our algorithm to check we didn’t need to dee-bug (find a problem and
fix it).

Here is an example of my algorithm:

Have you ever written an algorithm for something? Have you ever had to use
a compass for something?

Friyay!!!

Hello guys, IT'S FRIYAY (Friday- yay) and in for this weeks blog post is very exciting because it is going to be the last blog post I will make in the lock down!!! I am very excited to go back to school to see my teachers and friends that go to my school!!! Anyway, this blog post will contain one of my maths tasks, literacy tasks, and friyay tasks I have done. Lets start with my Literacy!

My Literacy task from this week was to:
To make a DLO talking about Roald Dahl the writer. I did this with my wonderful friend Tayla! and we both helped each other to make a site talking about the awesome writer, Roald Dahl. It was really interesting while doing this because I found out Roald Dahl's birthday was less than a birthday near to my birthday! Anyway here is my work!

My Maths task from this week was to:
To find the answers to the questions about Volume and Capacity. My Volume and capacity task was to answer the questions about how much millilitres was in litres and how much of millilitres were in the glasses each. Here is my questions and answers to the work I have accomplished and made.

And here is one of my Friyay tasks from today, it was to:
To chose a task out of a few tasks from a slide, and complete the one you pic. I chose the Rollin' wild. Rollin' wild is when I have to draw an animal and make it look big and round. I drew an elephant and I had said the bad thing about the round elephant. The bad thing is that it is too round and big, that it can't touch the ground!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed seeing my work and I will see you next time, BYEEEE!!!!!!

Hello everyone and in today's blog post I am going to be showing you my amazing animation that has been created by my team of friends which are Tayla and Jhana! They helped out a lot during this session to make a wonderful animation that retells the story of the plane crash from Roald Dahl. I had such a fun time watching the result of the animation and it was super cool! I hope you like our animation and I will see you in the next blog post, BYE!!!!

Design your room!

Hello everyone and in today's blog post I am going to be showing you all my designed rooms that I have made on a place called 3D room planning. It was really fun making this, I had a little ups and downs trying to get it on the class slide, but it ended up really cool looking and I really like it. My task today was to design two rooms that would be in my dream house and I think I did a really good job at it! So I hope you like it and I will see you next week, SEE YA!!!!!

Giraffes !!!

Hello everyone and in today's blog post I am going to be posting a DLO of a report I have made about giraffes. My task was to make a report about giraffes and we had to make sure to have an intro, a description, the animals habitat, it's diet and interesting facts. I had a lot of fun times while in the making of this, that was because I actually learned something new about the majestic animal the giraffe. Anyway without further adieu, here is my DLO, hope you like it, BYE!!!!!
